Stroke care
The three different types of cerebrovascular accidents, or strokes, are:
- An ischemic stroke, caused by a blockage in the artery to the brain. It's the most common type of stroke, accounting for about 87 percent of all strokes.
- A hemorrhagic stroke, in which a blood vessel ruptures, preventing blood from flowing to the brain.
- A transient ischemic attack (TIA), also called a “warning stroke” or “mini-stroke,” which produces stroke-like symptoms but has no lasting damage.
A stroke is serious and needs medical attention as quickly as possible to lessen any brain damage that may result.
Symptoms of a stroke include:
- Confusion, difficulty speaking or trouble understanding someone else speak
- Difficulty walking, dizziness or loss of balance
- Numbness or weakness in the arm, leg or face, especially on just one side of the body
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Sudden unexplained, intense headache
Lafayette Regional Health Center has been designated a Time Critical Diagnosis (TCD) Level III Stroke Center by Missouri's Department of Health and Senior Services. Level III centers provide access to important patient care in non-metropolitan areas and generally refer to a higher level center for more definitive care.
Pain management clinic
At our pain management clinic, we can help you manage chronic pain through various techniques, including nerve blocks. With nerve blocks, we inject a nerve-blocking substance into a cluster of nerves causing pain in a region of the body. They can provide temporary pain relief, allowing a damaged nerve time to heal and helping to identify a more specific cause of pain.
Neurological rehabilitation
If you need rehabilitation from neurological conditions such as a stroke, we offer occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy services. Our pediatric rehabilitation program treats cerebral palsy conditions, feeding disorders and speech and language delays to help children thrive.
