Lowell Ebersole, DO, named as chief medical officer at Research Medical Center

Experienced physician leader and patient advocate joins Kansas City's largest healthcare network to advance quality, safety and innovation.

Kansas City, Mo. —  Research Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health — Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider — today announced that Lowell Ebersole, DO, has been appointed Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Dr. Ebersole joins Research Medical Center from Wesley Healthcare in Wichita, Kansas, an HCA Healthcare Continental Division facility, where he served as CMO for the past six years. A seasoned healthcare executive and family medicine physician by training, Dr. Ebersole is widely recognized for his servant leadership style, commitment to patient-centered care, and focus on improving outcomes through collaboration, innovation and clinical excellence.

At Wesley Healthcare, Dr. Ebersole played a pivotal role in advancing quality, patient safety and graduate medical education, leading the hospital to earn numerous national accolades, including recognition among Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals, designation as a Premier/Fortune #1 Top Teaching Hospital and CMS 5-Star Hospital status. He also spearheaded the development of Wichita’s first and only full-time intensivist service in critical care units, supported the launch of nine residency and one fellowship program, and guided the hospital to comprehensive stroke certification.

A graduate of Bethel College in North Newton, Kan., and Des Moines University, Dr. Ebersole is currently pursuing an MBA, expected in December 2025. He graduated from the HCA Physician Leadership Academy and was honored with the Wichita Business Journal’s 2024 Healthcare Hero Award: Administrative Excellence.
